Spoonful of Comfort Review & Rafflecopter Giveaway
Spring is here and with it brings allergies! Well, at least for me! I have been suffering with allergies for almost a month now. I feel yucky! What do you really need when you aren't feeling very well? Chicken noodle soup of course! I just had the most wonderful chicken soup I've ever had from Spoonful of Comfort!
For review, I was sent 1 64 oz. Jar of Chicken Noodle Soup, Half Dozen Made From Scratch Rolls and Half Dozen Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. When I saw the package sitting on my doorstep, I was thrilled! I was so hungry and my 6 year old had just got home from kindergarten and was ready for lunch. I opened the box and loved the packaging! It's nice to open a box and not just see stuff thrown into it!
The noodle soup was packaged in cold packs so that it wouldn't go bad. In fact, half of the soup was frozen! I actually took comfort in that, knowing that nothing was bad. Everything looked yummy! We could not wait to get it warmed up. I poured the soup into a pot and heated it. It took no time at all! Super easy and convenient!
My little monkey (my 6 year old) ate it like he had never eaten before! The noodles were HUGE and very soft. The veggies were fantastic. Overall it had a great taste. Between us, we ate the whole thing! The rolls were also good. Reminded me of rolls my step mom makes! As for the cookies...only one made it to my mouth! I see why, they were delicious! They were a nice size and very soft. Soft cookies are my favorite! Plus, they tasted nothing like store bought cookies which was a nice change.
Spoonful of Comfort has many different gift baskets that you can send to people like, Thinking of You, Get Well, and Sympathy. For the quality of the products, I think the pricing is amazing!
Thanks to the very generous people at Spoonful of Comfort, one very lucky ready is going to win the same products I reviewed!

Hurricane Season Reminder
June 1st marked the beginning of the 2012 hurricane season. Being a Coastie wife, I am always well aware of when the season starts. When we lived on the Gulf Coast, the bases would have hurricane meetings at the beginning of each season to go over what to do in case we had to evacuate. Since most people don't live on a military base, I thought I'd share a little information to help prepare yourselves for a hurricane.
I am no stranger to hurricanes. Back in 2008, we were evacuated from Grand Isle LA for hurricane Gustav, and had to stay gone through hurricane Ike as well. We were one for a little over a month. While living in Alabama, I believe we only went through one small tropical storm. Not long after moving here to the Cape, Irene struck.

One thing that I do want to stress is that if you have to evacuate for a hurricane, plan to be gone for at least a month. It doesn't matter if it looks like it's going to be a weak storm, or if you think it's going to miss you. BE PREPARED! The weather is going to do what it wants to do. Weathermen can predict all they want, but remember, it's a PREDICTION! Anything can happen! As the Coast Guard says, "Semper Paratus!" Always ready!

1. If a hurricane is likely in your area, you should:
- Secure your home and close storm shutters. Don’t forget to secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors.
- Turn off utilities if instructed to do so. Otherwise, turn the refrigerator thermostat to its coldest setting and keep its doors closed. Find out how to keep food safe during and after and emergency.
- Turn off propane tanks.
- Avoid using the phone, except for serious emergencies.
- Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purpose such as cleaning and flushing toilets. Fill the bathtub and other larger containers with water.
2. You should evacuate:
Click the above graphic to be taken to the "Pledge to Prepare."
- If you are directed by local authorities to do so. Be sure to follow their instructions.
- If you live in a mobile home or temporary structure. Such shelters are particularly hazardous during hurricane no matter how well fastened to the ground.
- If you live in a high-rise building – hurricane winds are stronger at higher elevations.
- If you live on the coast, on a floodplain, near a river or on an island waterway.
3. If you are unable to evacuate, go to your wind-safe room. If you do not have one, follow these guidelines:
- Stay indoors during the hurricane and away from windows and glass doors.
- Close all interior doors – secure and brace external doors.
- Keep curtains and blinds closed. Do not be fooled if there is a lull; it could be the eye of the storm, meaning winds will pick up again.
- Take refuge in a small interior room, closet or hallway on the lowest level.
- Lie on the floor under a table or another sturdy object.
- Avoid elevators.

R.I.P. My Dear Cousin
This past Thursday night right as I was falling into sleep, I was awoken to my phone ringing. My phone hardly ever rings at 11:00 at night! When I saw that it was my mom calling, I knew right away that something was wrong. I answered and my mom was crying. She then told me that my cousin Trey had died. I sat up and said "what!?". It didn't sink in. She had very little details. All she knew was that he got into a car accident and didn't make it.
I cried a little after hanging up with my mom. She was so upset, I didn't want to cry talking to her. I went to sleep that night praying for my family. This is the first tragic loss our family had ever seen. I thought about his wife who has been battling cancer. I also thought about his little daughter and even younger son. I can't imagine losing either of my parents and I'm grown. So sad.
Trey was only 29 years old. Him and I were born in the same year but he was 6 months older than me. We grew up together. Always at my grandmama's for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Trick-or-treating was always a blast. The last time I saw him was about 4 years ago. His daughter was tiny and his son was still in his mama's belly. Now, I wish I would have known that was the last time I was going to see him.
He was a teacher. From what I hear, a very good teacher. His students loved him, some looked at him like a dad. He was an agriculture engineering and mechanics teacher at Goliad High School in Texas. He has lead many projects of restoring old vehicles, everybody's favorite was the General Lee from the "Dukes of Hazzard".
From everything I heard of the story, it was something that never should have happened. There was a group of people celebrating the end of the school year, Trey being one of them. Trey and another girl got into his restored 1927 Ford to run to the store. He lost control of the vehicle and rolled it. It was an old car, so there were no seat belts. They were both thrown from the car. The girl was airlifted to the hospital. My mom said she had a punctured lung, a few broken ribs and a ruptured spleen.
The funeral was yesterday. I, of course, could not go. Massachusetts is just too far. I thought about it all day. I knew all my family was together, so I couldn't call my mom to see how things were. She called me in the evening. It was heart wrenching to hear how badly his wife and my aunt were taking it. But, I know he is in a better place now, and we must all push forward.
There is good that came out of this tragic situation. My mom and aunt (his mom) hadn't talked to my other aunt in about 3 years due to sibling problems. Now, they have come back together, which makes me soooo happy! I hope it sticks!

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
